My Z has been a real pain in the ass since the day I bought it, but I still love it and love working on it. I have a reliable second vehicle ('99 Dodge Neon) and a garage though, and I'm sure that makes a big difference. If I had the same problem (and maybe I do - got a tick/knock I haven't tracked down) I'd be saying "Rod bearing, huh? Gee, never tried one of those before" If you aren't having fun with it then ditch it and try something else. Me - I'd keep at it.
